Even after death, the brain often remains active for a while. Understandably, apart from the very few who have been through it, no one knows how this affects human experience. This unknown point marks where the cross-media comic "Hotel under the Bridge" comes in.
This fictional story situates the brief period of brain activity after death in the "in-between," a transitional space between the realm of the living and the afterlife. It explores the themes of death, suicide, and the fairness of fate.
The main characters, Keke and Dina, find themselves in the in-between after their respective deaths. This in-between space is controlled and run by a corrupt government. From there, the dead are expected to move on to the afterlife as quickly as possible—a fate neither Keke nor Dina can accept.
The memories, visions, and future thoughts of the inhabitants of the in-between are expressed in the cross-media comic's design, including through digital elements.
